Why You Shouldn’t Buy A Mac
As you may have noticed, Mac computers having been growing in popularity lately. Why? I’m not really sure; it may have something to do with the subtle advertising Apple employs, or it could be because Macs are very shiny. Apple’s new found success is something only their marketing team, and teenage girls everywhere seem to understand. But, I’m here to tell you why you shouldn’t buy into the hype. I’ll explain why some people are willing pay 2,000 for a pretty new Mac, and why you shouldn’t. So, put your thinking caps on, and get ready for some schooling.
The most common reason people buy Macs, is because of the image they convey. A Mac is like a Lexus, sure, it might not be able to do anything a Toyota can’t, but it does have shiny emblems, and you think you look cool while driving one. When you own a Mac, you feel like the coolest guy around. You’re young, you’re hip, and you’re alternative. You are a Mac user. But, let me tell you something: just like the Lexus driver, you’re the only one who thinks you look cool. Sure, everyone who passes by you is thinking about what a nice computer you’ve got, but I guarantee not a single one of them even noticed you.
Ah, but now I can hear you screaming at your glossy monitor, insisting you bought your Mac for the raw computing power. Well, then do I have news for you. As much as Apple would like it to be so, they do not have any technology that is not available on a PC. But, that doesn’t keep them from marketing their products like they do. Need an example? Look at the iPhone, none of the technology was “innovative,” all of it had been used first on the Blackberry, the Palm Treo, and other smart phones. The same goes for the iPod, there were many MP3 players available from various manufacturers before the iPod even appeared on the drawing board. Their computers are no different, they use the same processors, the same memory chips, and the same hard drives as all PCs today, and PCs were using them first.
Now you pull out your last line of defense, the ever popular “software” argument. For years many have claimed that the Mac was unparalleled in the audio/video department. They claimed the PC could never compare to the Mac’s multimedia potential. But, is this really true? Absolutely not! For every Apple application, there is a PC application to match. Like editing photos with iPhoto? Try using Adobe Photoshop, the premier photo editing software used by professionals. How about making movies with iMovie (or iDVD, because they’re the same damn thing)? Well, Windows Movie Maker has that covered. And, Apples pride a joy: iTunes? This one should be a no brainer; there are hundreds of free media players available for the PC, including Windows Media Player.
Add all of that to the fact that you can purchase any Apple software, and install it on your PC, and the Mac doesn’t look to good anymore. So, go buy yourself a PC, and enjoy the kind of loneliness only a bedroom in your mother’s basement can provide. But, not to worry, I’m sure you’ll be able to buy a mail-order bride with all that money you saved by buying a PC instead of a Mac.
